About Our Chimney Inspection Service

The NFPA 211 standard defines three levels of chimney inspection. Level 1 is for chimneys in regular use with no changes in service. Level 2 is required when you buy or sell a home, change fuel types, or add a new appliance — it includes a video scan of the full flue. Level 3 is reserved for serious structural concerns and may require removing portions of the chimney to assess internal damage. We perform all three levels and provide a detailed written report accepted by insurers, home buyers, and real estate attorneys.

What's Included

  • NFPA 211 Level 1, 2, and 3 inspection capability
  • Video scan of flue included in Level 2
  • Written report accepted by lenders and insurers
  • Satisfies real estate transaction requirements
  • Identifies cracks, obstructions, and liner damage

Our Process

1

Confirm inspection level

We confirm which NFPA 211 level applies to your situation before the appointment.

2

Exterior and roof-line check

Crown, cap, flashing, mortar, and masonry are assessed from outside and the rooftop.

3

Interior firebox inspection

We check the firebox walls, lintel, damper, and smoke shelf for cracks and deterioration.

4

Flue video scan (Level 2+)

A high-resolution camera traverses the full flue length, recording every crack and deposit.

5

Written report delivery

You receive a typed report with photos, condition rating, and repair recommendations — same day.

Chimney Inspection FAQ

Yes. A Level 2 inspection is required whenever a home changes ownership under NFPA 211. General home inspectors do not have the equipment or certification to perform this.
